OENOTOURISM SHERRY ROUTE
This beautiful Jerez -Sherry- route includes visits to vineyards and cellars, wine tasting, tapas galore with sangria and/or wine, visit of Jerez de la Frontera (entrance fees to monuments not included) and typical old white village of Medina Sidonia.
Typically, we will visit the Cathedral, then we take the Gonzalez Byass Tio Pepe winery guided tour on board of a small train followed by a 4 Sherry wines tasting sesssion with tapas. We then visit the Alhambra Moorish Fortress and lunch on tapas near by. We then go to Medina Sidonia white village, home of the recently passed away Red Duchess, "Grand of Spain", and visit the beautiful church on top of the hill with amazing solid silver altars.
On our way back to your residence we have a look at the impressive Gibraltar Rock and a final wine tasting session will take place.
Optional on Tuesdays and Thursdays: Wonderful show at the Jerez Horse show (Fundación Real Escuela Andaluza Arte Ecuestre) : 24€ per person.
In the Cadix province, the connoisseur will be looking for a variety of Sherry Jerez wines known as fino, manzanilla, oloroso, dry or sweet, from light gold to amber to dark mahogany. in color. and amazing aromas of dried fruit, raisins, figs, vanilla... There are many options , from tapas on the beaches near Jerez town and plush Puerto de Santa Maria to a wonderful lunch in a famed restaurant, from seeing the famous Jerez Horse show, to visiting places like Tarifa -Europe's leading windsurf resort with busy windmills on the hills-, Algeciras -Spain's busiest harbour-, Gibraltar, Sotogrande Marina and the Valderrama Golf Club home of the Ryder's Cup, and Medina Sidonia -home of the "red Duchess †" and her unique archives of the conquest of America-. Closer to jet set Marbella, Casares, Gaucin, Algatocin, Grazalema are mountain white villages with breathtaking views of the Gibraltar Rock and nearby Morocco ten miles across the straights. Fabulous Ronda on both sides of a canyon, boasts to have oldest bullring in Spain and is the mountain area administrative and commercial center. Ronda wines are becoming more famous since the Prince Alfonso of Hohenloe † decided to start his own production years ago.
You will see scores of centuries old monuments, feel the special Andalucia atmosphere, taste sumptuous wines, eat a lot of mouth watering tapas and will like no doubt, to come back someday soon to experience again this unforgettable voyage in Southern Spain.
